Market Opportunity:

At a rate of 9% (CAGR) there is a strong and growing global need for BPO services which is estimated to reach $180 billion by 2009.
In the USA and UK, there is a strong need for quality english speaking agents who are willing to work in shifts thereby providing their foreign clients the possibility of expanded hours. Clients are looking for better and more productive staff at a lower price to ensure lower operating costs and higher ROI. In the event of any disaster, clients seek to ensure continuity by diversifying outsourced activities globally. Fortune 1000 companies are migrating customer service out of India to new emerging low-cost markets.

Ghana is a favoured BPO destination because Ghana has a large pool of English-speaking labour, competitive labour costs differential to USA and UK and geo-political stability. The ITES-BPO sector has been identified by government as a focus area for economic development. Availability and penetration of telecom and internet services is steadily rising, several investor-friendly policies are in place and there are cyber-protection laws to protect investors.

For all of these reasons and more, Ghana is uniquely positioned to be a major ITES/BPO services hub in Africa. Ghana is making news with respect to BPO. In 2005 and 2007, the AT Kearney Global Services Location Index ranked only two (2) countries in Africa as competitive with Ghana second to South Africa. This indicated growing interest of FDI into Ghana In the same year, the Government of Ghana asked Hewitt Associates to conduct a study of the BPO Sector in Ghana and reported that BPO could likely create 37,000 direct jobs, more than 150,000 indirect Jobs and generate more than US$750 Million in revenue opportunities within 5 years of active participation in the ITES/BPO space.
